![]() SAY Sí began as a program under the umbrella of the King William Neighborhood Association in a space at the Blue Star Arts Complex [a large warehouse arts district south of downtown San Antonio]. Classes began in February of 1994 with 12 students from one high school, with studio sessions held three days a week. Since that time, SAY Sí has steadily grown to include over 100 students in its programs, with studio sessions held 4 days a week. Additionally, SAY Sí’s outreach program ABC (Artists Building Communities) contributes art activities to a range of partner events. |
From Ashley Perez:
If you are receiving this message, it is because you have impacted my life, and I count you as supporters of all things creative, which is why I'm updating you on the status of SAY Sí. This organization has shaped the lives of so many, including myself. It now faces a great financial challenge as we struggle to make payroll in March. Yesterday, the SAY Sí Union and management came together to devise an interim agreement, which involves reduced hours and a temporary closure of SAY Sí for a week at the end of March. This decision affects every member of our dedicated staff, including our Executive Director, Stephanie LaFrocisa. We believe in the mission of SAY Sí and have confidence that making this sacrifice will pay off because the community will come to our aid. Our initial goal is to raise $50,000, inclusive of a matching grant, and I've attached a one-sheet that outlines the reasons behind this financial challenge, our fundraising initiatives, and the measures we're implementing to prevent such situations in the future. Additionally, the Union fully supports this fundraising effort, and trust is being rebuilt in authentic and meaningful ways. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this, and please be sure to share this link and donate if you can. |
